This was a great novel to read in the fall months as Halloween approaches. It was magical, but not in a scary or creepy way and weaves many characters and their story's together in an entertaining way. The writing is perhaps not the absolute best or most academic, but that is part of the charm and did not take away from the story for me (I have read far worse by much more successful authors). In general, though I found the story kept me on my toes and I was always intrigued to see what would come, or whom we would meet, next. I will admit that sometimes I wish there were more detail or follow up with certain characters and I felt the ending left a bit more to be desired- which could easily be cleared up with a sequel *hint hint Amy Foster!*- but this may also be human nature to want all loose ends tied up neatly. Overall I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this!

THIS BOOK ANSWERED ALL OF MY NEEDS. I LOVE BOOKS THAT HAVE MAGIC IN EVERYDAY USE AND THIS BOOK WAS FULL OF IT. IT REMINDS ME OF SARAH ADDISSON ALLEN'S BOOKS. ENCHANCHTING......I COULDN'T ASK FOR A BETTER BOOK
Love this book, Ms Foster is a talented writer and always loved her lyrics. Wanted to see how she did with a novel and I am not disappointed. This lives up to my expectations for a novel, easy to get lost in.
Got my book today and I cant wait to read it. Packaging was grate and easy to open.
It is an interesting concept. There were a lot of characters introduced, and not really enough time to get to know each one. I don't know if there is another book planned to continue the story, but it sort of stopped abruptly. The main character's story was resolved, but many other characters' stories were just beginning.
This book is charming, warm, magical and I never wanted it to end but simultaneously felt it was perfect.
I wanted to like this, but it just never pulled me in.
Autumn lives in the small town of Avening in the Pacific Northwest. This is no ordinary town, despite initial appearances, and Autumn is no ordinary woman. Magical touches abound around the town, and while she dislikes the term "witch", Autumn is certainly a wise woman with magical gifts. She receives a visit from a member of her sisterhood and is told that she will be leaving the town, and must select a group of women to take over the stewardship of the town and from them, select a leader. As she advertises for an assistant, each section of the book brings us a story of each of the applicants, or in some cases, more than one. From capturing lightning in a bottle, to astral projection, to precognition, to travel to other dimensions, each woman/girl has a unique talent and Autumn must make some difficult choices in order to make her final selections. In some ways, this is a collection of vignettes bound together by a central thread, and while it does not fully reach its potential as a story, I still enjoyed the book and look forward to the next story from the author.
